HOW TO: ACQUIRE BARANGAY BUSINESS PERMIT (A Pre-requisite in securing the Mayor's Permit)

Now that you have your Business Name registered and certified with the DTI, the next thing you will have to do is to secure a Barangay Business Permit. Here's what you need to know to secure one!

Note: If you missed the DTI Business Name Registration, visit my step by step how to's here.

Before you go rushing to your kumare or kumpare at your barangay, stop! Because you have to acquire your barangay business permit at the barangay where you will be holding your business.

And before you go to that barangay, you have to have a photocopy of your DTI Business Name Certificate with you, else, you will come home empty handed.

Here are the things you need to secure a Barangay Business Permit:
TASK RATING: 1 out of 5
TIME: 45mins.
COST: Php1,000.00

1.) Photocopy of your DTI Business Name Registration Certificate. Some barangays no longer get a copy of this, but some still files it for their reference.

2.) Visit the Barangay where you will be operating. I highly recommend that you set a meeting by calling in first, sometimes, the Capitan/Capitana is not around to sign your document. It would be easier if you knew if the Barangay Captain and the Secretary is there for you to secure your permit.

Note: If you will be leasing/renting a space within that barangay, secure a copy of your Contract for Lease. The Barangay will be requiring this. Otherwise, you just have to present your DTI Certificate.

3.) Fill out the Barangay Business Permit Form. Often, barangays would have an official form such as this. But in some cases, the Secretary will just be asking / interviewing you while she fills out the certificate softcopy from the computer.

4.) Pay. In my case, I paid Php1,000.00 with Official Receipt of course. And yes, it costs more than some other documents you will be paying the government.

5.) Wait for your certificate. The Secretary will be printing one (1) copy of the Barangay Business Permit. This includes the logo of the barangay and the municipality. It will also state the name of your Business as Registered with DTI. The document will not be valid without the Barangay Captain's signature and dry seal.

QUICK FACT!
Your Barangay Clearance for Business usually has a strict validity of one (1) Calendar Year. Which means it expires every December 31 of the current year. So, if you want to maximize your Php1,000.00, make sure that you secure this (together with your DTI Certification, it being a pre-requisite) at least during the first quarter of the current year!
