BDJ BOX SOCIAL CAMP GORGEOUS EVENT

No thanks to Typhoon Luis, travelling from Paranaque to SM North to attend the BDJ Beauty Social #CampGorgeous event may have been a bit risky, but very exciting all at the same time.

This is actually my first (but definitely not the last) time to attend such an event and it did not disappoint!

I was one of the 16 lucky Bellas that had won the Max Factor’s Junior Makeup Artist pre-qualifying contest by submitting my before and after photo and by telling everyone my best makeup tip. As such, it entitled me an exclusive slot at the Max Factor booth that day.

I was told to be at the booth at least 30 minutes before 2:00pm. I told my husband that I needed to be at the Skydome by lunch time (Shh…don’t tell) so I guess I was a tad bit early than required, this made me decide to go ahead and grab a quick lunch at Starbucks. Wasn’t really that hungry, excited much? Definitely!

As I was enjoying my Caramel Frappuccino and honey glazed donut, I was busy reading the flyer they had handed over at the entrance. The entire BDJ team was at the registration and they were much too delighted to assist me further. One of them even personally escorted me and endorsed me over to Max Factor’s coordinators.

I am a Marketing Supervisor of a Multinational Company and all I can say is, I have had my fair share of event coordination and control. I must say that BDJ had exerted efforts in making this social event a reality. From informational flyers down to roaming coordinators, everything was well covered! Kudos to your hardwork Bellas!

Established, top brands such as The Benefit, Yves Rocher, Loreal, Piandre, Max Factor, PAC, Real Techniques (Distributed by Kalm Cosmetics) and Cover Girl as well as incoming new beauty brands such as Too Cool For School (Korean), Heroine Make (Japanese), Glam Glow, Eco Tools (Distributed by Kalm Cosmetics) all had their respective booths up and about, ready to give beauty advises and a free makeover to those who are very much willing to wait and learn.

I have also spotted two YouTube Pinay makeup gurus giving their signature makeover to customers at the Kalm Cosmetics booth!

Shebby Liquet, known for her Etude House makeup tutorials, was demonstrating the use of Eco Tools.

Eco Tools are all natural makeup brushes made of bamboo. (I actually own the essential eye set.)

(I love using these tools in applying eye makeup, the soft bristles pick up enough amount of eyeshadow and blending using these brushes are really easy! I will do a separate review on these brushes in my next blog entry.)

Anna Victorino is like the Pinay version of Michelle Phan, another YouTube makeup guru. Her videos are well prepared, precise and easy to follow, very ideal for those who are just starting to learn how to apply makeup.

I still got around 30 minutes to go before the call time at the Max Factor booth, so I decided to roam the entire event center first. I saw beauty products that were once featured at every BDJ Beauty box.

I remember staying and listening at the Benefit booth while the beauty minister gave out free lectures on how to tidy your brows with the use of their Gimme Brow Gel. I was even handed a free FakeUp sample in 02 Medium by the uniformed Benefit Gal! Thank you Benefit!

I soon found myself wandering off to the Revlon booth. I was really tempted to buy a box of their Colorsilk or Luminista haircolor because application was free! However, since I knew I had to head back to Max Factor booth, I had to let this pass. However, I took note of the color/shade that I would want to apply, "light ash brown." (Must buy this by next pay day!) Other than their on site hair color application, there was also a short course on makeup application on the side. Looking at how things are going, I can't help but smile from within seeing the faces of my co-bellas who are in deep concentration listening and trying to grasp every information the lecturer had been sharing about the basics of makeup.

I also found Loreal Paris' booth quite interesting as they have a Skin Analyzer Machine that you can try for free! There is an in house beauty technician that can analyze your skin condition and give you some tips on how to take care of your skin. Did I mention that their lines are like line from a blockbuster movie?

And of course, aside from their blockbuster Skin Analyzer Machine, they also have a free makeover to pre-registered guests:

Most of the booths at the Camp Gorgeous BDJ Social event features beauty products that are highlighted by giving Bellas a free makeover. Which was great given that some might have not been able to put on a decent makeup because of the weather.

Here are a few snapshots of the booths that I had visited.

Bellas from all over the Metro have come to see their favorite beauty brands exhibit their products and I must say, they did not disappoint.

Aside from the booth display, BDJ team has also managed to schedule an hour per hour talks about techniques, latest skin care trends and more beauty related topics by respectable makeup gurus from top brands such as Shu Uemura and Max Factor. Of course, this was kicked off by our very own BDJ Beauty Ministry. Unfortunately, though I want to sit and listen to every talk, I'm afraid that I'd had to listen from where I was standing because there were limited slots available and only pre-registered attendees were allowed to enter. (I know, I tried sneaking in, but to no avail!) =)

As much as I would want to focus on the entire event, I'd have to write about why I was here in the first place. As mentioned earlier, I was chosen as one of the 16 lucky Bellas for the Max Factor's search for the next junior makeup artist!

Now tell me, wouldn't your heart skip a beat when you see this beautifully crafted vanity mirror waiting for your disposal? What's more, Max Factor will be sponsoring the products and tools we will be using!

Well hello there! I intend to get the best seat in the house. (The one stationed at the edge of the table near the makeup chair) Can't wait to hear Ms. Kat Garcia, Max Factor's Makeup Artist, to teach us techniques on how to use Max Factor's latest products!

I have to admit, winning the pre-qualifying round made me too nervous that I had to prepare. I made a research on Max Factor's CC sticks and Primer. I found out that there were six (6) CC Stick variants, as follows:
In chronological order:
  1. The Corrector (Green) - Neutralizes redness (sides of the nose, broken capillaries, new pimple / acne marks, etc.)
  2. The Balancer (Peach) - Evens out dark spots in medium skin tones, counteracts blue tones and brightens.
  3. The Balancer (Pink) - Evens out dark spots in light skin tones, counteracts blue tones and brightens.
  4. The Revitalizer (Purple) - Counteracts sallow and yellow areas banishing dullness.
  5. The Illuminator (Beige) - Highlighter. Softly reflects lights and highlights features of the face.
  6. The Brightener (Yellow) - Neutralizes purple tones (undereye circles)
So, you can tell how happy I was when Kat asked us what do we think are the uses of these CC Sticks!

Kat said that CC stands for "Color Corrector," the name says it all. Kat also said that you don't use this by picking your favorite shade. You must first identify your skin's problem areas and try to resolve them by choosing the best CC stick for you.

"You don't tell the counter lady that you want the purple stick just because... If you have broken capillaries or redness around your nose you don't go ahead and use the purple stick because it's your favorite of the bunch. You use the green CC stick as this counters redness and will give you an even, flawless base for your foundation..."
                                                                           Kat Garcia, Max Factor MUA

After giving us a primer about Max Factor's newest makeup line, we went ahead and prepared for the contest proper. At this time, I'd like to give a shout out to my row mates: Eva, Brevie and Kim who, like me, also won the pre-qualifier.

Kat told us that we must come up with a DAYTIME LOOK using Max Factor products and that the best of our group (we are 8 all in all) would be declared as the new junior make up artist!

Kat, showing the makeup peg

Wait, what?! DAYTIME makeup look?!

My heart was pounding so hard that I thought I'd have a heart attack! I know I can get this in the bag because since I was working corporate, I had no other choice but to put on makeup every single day!

But wait, why are my palms sweaty and why is it that all of a sudden, it seems that I have no knowledge whatsoever about putting on makeup?! What the heck!

Eventhough I got a few information about the new CC sticks, how is it that I can't seem to get the right stick to solve the right skin concern? Pressure!

According to Kat, day makeup is supposed to be simple. Use only the lightest shades of shadows and lippies, avoid application of falsies and contour. With the use of the CC sticks, we would have to be able to pull off a flawless looking base.

Well, I tried, but this is the look I came up with in only under 30minutes. What do you think? I personally think that the makeup is great, but the angle isn't! haha!

Products used: Primer, CC Sticks (green, purple, beige and peach),
Whipped Cream Foundation, Shimmer Shadows, Liquid Effect Eyeliner,
Wild Mega Volume Mascara, Color Elixir Lipstick and Color Elixir Gloss

Anyway, I had a real great time learning a few tricks here and there. I had finally personally tried the Max Factor CC sticks, in fact I already know what I want to purchase! (The Corrector (Green) and the Illuminator (Beige)) I love the way it glided on my skin and how easily it blends in, making my face seem flawless and even looking.

Did I win? Unfortunately, no. But I am pretty happy that Brevie, my newly found friend, had won the challenge. Congrats Bella! I'm so envious of the Max Factor package that you took home!

Me with Kat Garcia (Max Factor MUA)

I may not have won the main prize, but Max Factor was generous enough to give all the participants a token. This was actually more than enough that I had bargained for. I had been trained by a professional Makeup Artist, I had the first glimpse and tested the new Max Factor CC sticks, I used the latest Max Factor makeup products and most of all, I had gained new friends!

So, was the BDJ Social Camp Gorgeous helpful at all? I would have to say YES to that! First, it is a FREE for all event that encourages Bellas all over the Metro to EMPOWER the WOMAN within by creating an avenue for them to explore their love and passion for everything Beautiful!

Can't wait for the next social event!
