Review: Naturactor Foundation

There are certain days when I blame my genes for being so cruel to me. Those days are normally happening every month. You know, those moments when you have to attend a certain meeting or be at a certain occasion or show up at your class reunion and you just had to have that irritatingly huge pimple on your face!

Unfortunately, I am not blessed with good skin. The type that doesn't oil up or breakout too much or have ginormous pores. Fortunately though, I am also not suffering from chronic acne. I have tried numerous facial skin care products like Pro Activ, Tofu Soap, Anti Acne Facial Scrubs and even the concentrated pimple zapper serums but when the going gets tough, I rely deeply on makeup.

That's the beauty of it, makeup. You are able to conceal imperfections that would really boost your confidence and make you feel good inside and out. Okay, some of you might start asking hypocritical questions like, "What about inner/natural/real beauty?" blah, blah, blah. Let me just say this once and for all. We are not putting on makeup to be someone else. We are just having fun ENHANCING what we already have. It's not like we undergo surgery to look pretty, you know.

Anyway, going back, I have tried several foundations and concealers to hide these unsightly guests but there are just so many of them that do not deliver as promised. Some foundations upon application, would give full coverage, but after several hours, your face would look cakey and just down right awful! Concealers fade and eventually budges easily when your face starts to oil up. Plus, don't you just hate it when after all the packed makeup your face feels like a mask already? I just hate that!

I have discovered an all natural concealer foundation (in one) that really conceals and creates a flawless canvass without leaving your face feel heavy. To set this, I also purchased a loose powder also from the same brand.

Naturactor Cover Face Concealer Foundation and Silky Lucent Loose Powder.

They say that the Cover Face Concealer is the most popular of the Naturactor Line. Even celebrities use them because it gives a perfect coverage that lasts a long time.

Naturactor Cover Face Concealer Foundation Pot

SHADE:
There are very limited shades and not everyone can use it. When I say not everyone, I meant not everyone. Naturactor came up with the five shades above.

130- Lightest Shade. Has pinkish hue and is perfect for fair skin.
140- Also suitable for fair skin. Compared with 130, this shade has a yellow undertone.
141- Translucent light shade with pinkish hue.
151- Darkest shade in the line, suitable for light morena skin, has yellow undertone.
171- This acts like a skin corrector. It neutralizes redness on the skin. (Eg. Pimple, small veins, redness, etc.)

ALL NATURAL?
Here's a list of ingredients found in this product:

  • Jojoba Oil - a liquid produced in the seed of the Jojoba plant (a type of shrub) that is commonly used in cosmetic products especially those that claim to be all natural.
  • Mica - is a skin hugging, translucent mineral that is commonly used in makeup products. This is generally safe to use on skin, thus approved by the FDA.
  • Tocopherol - are a family of the Vitamin E compounds naturally found in vegetable oils, nuts, fish and green leafy vegetables.
  • Euphorbia Antisyphilitica Extract - a type of natural wax extracted from species of spurge (flowering plants like Ponsenttia)

Enriched with Vitamin E and Jojoba oil, this product moisturizes your skin and at the same time removing free radicals that can cause premature skin ageing and sun damage.

PACKAGING:
At first, I thought that this is a big pot, but when I got hold of the item, I was surprised that it actually is just a little bigger than a five peso coin. It is made of hard, white, shiny plastic. Very simple. But there is elegance in its simplicity. The brand name printed on the lid and the product description sticker at the bottom of the pot is all there is.

At 20grams, one pot is said to last for about 6 months of daily use because a little (I mean a little) does go a very looooong way.

SCENT:
I am unsure if you are familiar with this, but when I was younger, my yaya uses something on her face called "Chinchangsu" which later on changed its name to "Mena." I remember raising my eyebrows every time I see her apply this on her face as this makes her look like a ghost or a person who just fell on heaps of baby powder.

This product is used to whiten the face, which is great for her, but the scent is kind of funny. It isn't bad, but it kind of smells like an expired lotion. LOL. Don't know how else to explain it. Naturactor Cover Face Concealer Foundation has a hint of that same distinct scent.

APPLICATION TECHNIQUES:
There are several ways on how you can put this product on.
- Using your clean fingers - but be careful not to get too much product, remember, a little goes a very long way.
- Using a damp beauty blender/ sponge - you can directly pat the sponge on the pot (which I highly do not recommend for sanitary purposes) or you can use your fingers to apply the product on your face and just blend it out with the sponge.
- Synthetic stiff flat brush - your can directly get a few product from the pot and spread it evenly on the face.
- Stippling or Dense Kabuki or Flat top brush - my favorite application technique. The brush picks up just the right amount. Blending or buffing it on the skin is using this brush makes it much easier as well.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:
I have always been hesitant to buy foundations, concealers or powders online, primarily because the shade might be different from actual and from what is showing in the photo because of the filter used or my computer's screen resolution. So I had to rely on the seller's advise. I asked which is the best shade for MAC NC40 to NC42. She said to get 141. But instinct kicked in and I thought, I have always purchased foundations that has a yellow base, just because I have a warm skin tone, and looking at the photo, shade 141 to me tends to have a pink undertone. I have therefore decided to get shades 140 and 151 seeing that they both have a yellow undertones. I ordered two just to be on the safe side.

This product retails $14.95USD at the website (or approximately Php650.00) per piece. But I was able to find a credible supplier that sold me this product for only PHP390.00 excluding shipping. Got it at 50% off!

If you closely look at the swatches, you'd notice that compared with the pot picture (where it looks as though it has a yellow undertone) 140 tends to still have a pink hue to it. Which is why I highly recommend that whenever you buy foundation or powders or concealers, that you test it before buying it.

Anyway, you'd also notice that the swatch almost perfectly covered my natural skin. I feel that I get this kind of coverage for HD foundations. Anyway, notice how the product gets into the crease of the skin making it appear flawless.

I use the shade 151 as my foundation and 140 as my highlighter or under eye concealer.

Heard of the very famous Ben Nye Banana Powder? Didn't it make a headline because of the famous contouring of Ms. Kim K? Well, apparently, Naturactor Silky Lucent Powder is Asia's best selling loose powder that perfectly fits any skin tone.

Claim to fame? It's a finishing powder that transforms your face to perfection. It refracts light creating a glowing luminescence that enhances your makeup.

Naturactor Silky Lucent Loose Powder is best paired with the Naturactor Concealer Foundation as it last all day long without settling or caking.

Naturactor Silky Lucent Loose Powder

SHADES:
There are just 3 shades for this variant:
31 - Lightest of the three. Best paired with Cover Face Foundation and Concealer #'s 130 and 140.
41 - Great for light skin tone with yellow undertone. Compliments Cover Face Foundation and Concealer #'s 140 and 141.
51 - Darkest of the three shades. Supposedly best paired with Cover Face Foundation and Concealer # 151.

INGREDIENTS:
It has the same ingredients found in the Cover Face Foundation and Concealer except for one.

Kaolin - Kaolin clay is made up of the constituent kaolinite and has the notable composition of aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and silica (SiO2). It has been used for hundreds of thousands of years in masks and other facial applications. There are no proven harmful side effects unless you are subjected to it in industrial level. However, it is important that you be very careful not to inhale this fine particle to prevent any unwanted immunological or respiratory allergies to dust particles.

PACKAGING:

Compared with the Cover Face Foundation and Concealer, the Silky Lucent Loose Powder has a big packaging. It almost occupied my entire palm! It is also as simple and elegant as the first product. The powder is secured in the canister with a plastic cap. There is also a net included in the pack to prevent your brush from getting too much product.

You have to place the net on top of the powder and re-seal it properly with the plastic cap before covering the canister with the lid. Ensure that you re-place the plastic cap to prevent your powder from spilling.

SCENT:
Just like any other loose powder, there is a mild powdery scent to this product. I'm not going to say that it has fragrance but I feel that what I can smell out of it is the natural scent of a loose powder.

APPLICATION TECHNIQUES:
I highly recommend using a fluffy blush brush or a powder brush to apply this product, however, I have seen many people use different techniques such as:
- Using a fluffy puff. For greater coverage, and
- Beauty blender to really pack it in place, perhaps best for preventing or cleaning out fall outs.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:
The product is very fine. Particles actually fly all over upon application. But once applied on the skin, it sits there and perfectly binds itself with the Naturactor Cover Face Foundation and Concealer. I notice that it also absorbs excess oil keeping your face matte and flawless.

Well, so much for my review, I will let your eyes be the judge.

No wonder why celebrities and makeup artists are so amazed with this product! It perfectly hides imperfections! It is very light on the skin that you won't even remember you had it on. The longer it stays on the skin the better it gets! I just love it!

I just wish that Naturactor comes out with more Filipina-friendly shades.
