SWEET TOOTH DIARIES: Toasted Pastillas

This is one of the most craved Filipino dessert now a days. Ingredients are very cheap, plus it is very easy to do.

Here's what you will need:
1 bowl
1 teaspoon
1 spatula
pastillas mold (optional)

INGREDIENTS:
2 Tablespoon Condensed Milk
2 1/2 cups Powdered Milk
1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar

Optional:
Caramel Sauce
Food Flavor (any)
Food Color (any)

PROCEDURE:

1.) Put the milk powder in a large bowl.

2.) Using a small spoon, gradually add condensed milk into the milk powder, checking from time to time the consistency of the batter.

3.) Mix together. It should form a thick paste. It should not be runny. In case the paste is runny, just add a few cups of milk powder until the paste thickens. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours for easier handling.

4.) You can use a pastillas mold like this one, or you can just simply round it up with your palms.

I prefer getting a small amount and roll them in sugar.

5.) You can leave it as is or you can go a step further by lining them up in a cookie sheet and baking them for not more than 2 minutes. Just enough to give the pastillas that toasted taste.

I went ahead and made use of my caramel syrup and designed my toasted pastillas as such:

VIOLA! Here you go! Toasted Pastillas with a dallop of caramel syrup! Enjoy!

  3. Hi. If you are buying from Bake-supply shops, you can buy the Generic Powdered Milk (in 1Kilo Packaging) avoid Skim Milk though as this is too bland. Or you can buy any powdered milk from the Supermarket, I suggest that you buy Alaska Milk Powder because to me, it is the sweetest variety.

    1. normally, you can buy the caramel syrup at any bake supply store. Tinransfer ko lang sya sa lalagyan. This is very sticky at first, pero pag napalamig sa ref, tumitigas din ung caramel. If you want, you can dust powdered sugar para tumigas ung syrup.

    1. Opo, pwede sya i-toast using a small oven or a toaster.
