DIY: (Salon Like) Hair Rebonding: Say Goodbye to Frizzy Wavy Hair

Asians are known to have silky straight long black hair. Having pin straight tresses are more acceptable in this side of the world versus the Western’s voluminous, wavy, 2nd day locks.

Unfortunately however, my hair strands are thick and wavy. This is where my problem begins. During dry season (in my country, we only have 2 seasons, dry for summer and wet for the rest of the year that isn’t too hot) people tend to sport curly, messy, wavy hair. Which is very convenient for me as I have naturally wavy hair, all I have to do is to tie it up in case it gets too hot and humid. But during wet season, people tend to sport long, silky, pin straight hair.

Salon Rebond or Brazilian Blow Dry (see my previous post on this) or whatever treatment there is out there is very expensive and you won’t have the assurance that your hair would look and feel healthy as promised.

So, this is where spending hours and hours of raking through aisles and aisles of beauty products had finally paid off. I saw a DIY hair rebonding product that didn’t even break my piggy bank! It only cost me Php290.00 (approximately $7.00USD) for 1 set. I also included 2 1000g bottle of Keratin Hair Repair Conditioner for only Php180.00/each (approx. $4.00USD/ each)
If you want to save a lot of dough for something more important than going to the salon, then you might want to read on.

What you would need to straighten your hair at the comfort of your own home would be the following:
  1. Comb
  2. Ceramic Hair Iron (Straightening Iron)
  3. Hair Blower
  4. 1 Box of Monea Hair Rebond System (enough for shoulder length thick hair) - available at some Watsons Store (SM Malls)
  5. Verdon Ne Silky Keratin Hair Spa - available thru SophiaandKalel (Instagram) at ATC Mall

***The Monea Hair Rebond System comes with it an instruction sheet. It is important that you read it VERY CAREFULLY so you won't miss any step.***

Here's what you should do:
1.) Wash your hair thoroughly (DO NOT use conditioner) to rid it of oil and dirt.

2.) Using a hair blower, thoroughly dry your hair. Comb it thoroughly.

3.) You may opt to use a glove here (I didn't) using a comb, get a spoonful of the Monea Hair Rebond System I (Yellow jar). Spread the product from the roots to the tips. (Note that if you have colored or previously treated hair, application may vary, check the instruction sheet)

4.) Leave the product on for 20 mins. Perform a "knot test" after 20mins. Here's how: Get atleast 4-5 strands of hair, wipe off the product with a napkin and tie a knot. If the knot loosens, it means that your hair is not yet ready. If it doesn't budge, you may proceed to the next step.

5.) Rinse off the product with water. Dry completely using a hair blower and comb thoroughly.

6.) Using a pre-heated ceramic hair iron (heat settings may differ depending on the condition of your hair, see instruction sheet) carefully iron your hair, making sure that you get a few strands at a time. Let cool.

7.) Apply the Monea Hair Rebond System II (Gray jar) on your hair. Leave again for 20 mins.

8.) Rinse your hair as usual only this time, use the Verdon Ne Silky Keratin Hair Spa. Leave the Verdon on your hair for 5 minutes. Let the product seep into your hair strands to somehow bring back the condition of your hair. Using the Monea Hair Straightening system could be very damaging.

Viola! Enjoy your straight hair right from the comfort of your own home. Do not rinse your hair for 2 consecutive days and avoid making marks by tucking your hair at the back of your ear.
Hope you guys enjoyed this post. Comment below if you have any questions and I'll give it my best to answer them back.
