2016 is probably the birth year of cushion foundations. It is
a fad in Korea, but it’s starting to take the world by storm. Why? Because cushion
foundations are known to make the skin look flawless and younger looking
without making the skin feel heavy and streaky. Aside from this, it is also
less messier than a liquid foundation (because it has a built in sponge) and it’s
handy with a full sized mirror. Everything you’d want – and need for face
makeup.

here in the Philippines. Which is why I was so happy to learn that they have an
exclusive Maybelline sale. Part of that sale is the brand new Maybelline Super BB
Cushion. Here’s my honest take on the much coveted beauty item of 2016.

PACKAGING (4 out of 5 stars)
Who doesn’t love ROSE GOLD? I was ecstatic to see that the
Maybelline Super BB Cushion comes in a Rose Gold packaging.
The box is a shiny gold - rose gold combination with a sleek
and stylish design. Meanwhile the actual cushion compact has a matte rose gold
lid and a cream white body. A simple Maybelline New York BB Cushion is printed
and embossed on the cover.
On the inside, you will see a full mirror, perfect to make
sure you get all areas covered. A cushion sponge that picks up just the right
amount of product and ensures that it is blended properly. An air-tight
container where you will find your fully soaked bb foundation to ensure that
your product doesn’t dry up fast.
SHADES (2 out of 5 stars)
Unfortunately, the Maybelline Super BB Cushion doesn’t have
a range of shades, thus, is not for everyone. They only come in two shades,
Light (02) and Natural (03). On the Maybelline New York website, there are
eight (8) shades available. Perhaps for the Asian Market, they decided that
darker shades would not sell because Koreans tend to sport the lighter face –
than neck look.
PRICE (4 out of 5 stars)
Admit it, this is one of the most affordable cushion
foundation there is in the drugstore. It is sold for Php749.00 (MSRP). I got
mine at an introductory price of less than 40% or Php450.00. What a deal right?
Usually Maybelline is into having super sale so if you happen to stumble into
one, go ahead and grab the opportunity to try this product out.
SMELL (4 out of 5 stars)
It gives off a light scent very similar to other Maybelline
foundation. I don’t get turned off by it and I don’t really mind the scent. If
you happen to want your foundation without any scent, do not fret, because as
soon as the product dries up, you won’t smell anything at all.
TEXTURE (4 out of 5 stars)
I personally like liquid-y foundations. Maybe because I don’t
like to feel anything on my face. I also hate cakey foundations, so the
consistency of this product is perfect for me. It is very light on the skin,
but despite this, the coverage is superb!
The sponge that soaks up all the foundation is very porous,
compared with other Korean cushion compacts that I have, the Maybelline sponge
is very similar to the actual sponge (Phylum Porifera). Thus allows proper
circulation of any product through it. You’d definitely get enough product with
just one press. The downside, if you have heavy hands, you will end up with
more product that you’d want. So be careful because there is no way you can
return back the excess product from the sponge.
COVERAGE (5 out of 5 stars)
OMG. I don’t know about you, but this BB cushion foundation
doubles up as a concealer without the heavy feeling! You can see in the photos
how the product settles on the skin, making it look poreless and flawless.

LONGEVITY (3 out of 5 stars)
One thing I noticed about this product is that as the day
goes by, the product settles on the skin looking like skin. I don’t know if
that made sense to you, but what I mean is that the longer you have it on your
face, the more natural it looks. But, the coverage wanes down by 60%, so even
though your skin looks skin – but better, you can’t help but start to see
blemishes peeking through.
FINAL VERDICT
(4.5 out of 5 stars)
Despite the very limited shades, I’d still find myself
re-purchasing this product. Maybelline is not just able to be at par with top
Korean Cushion foundations, they are actually better! With the very affordable
price, the great, natural coverage and the benefits this product gives, I’d
definitely replace my stash of heavy, creamy foundation with this one.
Students, new moms and employees will do well with this
product, I highly recommend them!
